The 2026 NPLW season was a rollercoaster, with coach Tony Skinner stepping in the first week of fixtures to take over the reins. The team started strong and built a solid foundation with early wins over Gold Coast United, Capalaba, and Souths Strikers.
They were then hit with injuries to three big-name players: Teyl Danger, Jackie Doyle, and Kelsey Grant. In the May transfer window we saw Ida Akesson and Jojo Alonzo join the squad, bringing experience and skill. Young talented midfielder Delaney Waugh also returned from Brisbane City. The team gained momentum from there with some impressive results against top-of-the-league teams, including 1-1 vs Brisbane City and 1-1 vs Gold Coast Knights.
Not only did this squad play great football, but they also showed their connection and community spirit in Round 23 when the ladies came together with junior girls from all over the club to wear grey ribbons to raise awareness for glioblastoma, demonstrating the Wanderers’ unending support for Kim, the mum of our core NPLW player Tiahni Webber.
The talent of the SCW NPLW squad was recognised across the season by Football Queensland, with:
- Macey Edwards in the top 10 for Golden Boot
- Jessica Stafford, Rebekah Horsey, and Katie Sherar named as defensive leaders in the league
- Daisy Lewerenz, Rebekah Horsey, Macey Edward, and Piper Vidulich shortlisted for the state team
The strength, depth, and resilience of the Sunshine Coast Wanderers’ female program were tested this season, and we came out on top, securing our position in NPLW for another year. Looking ahead, 2027 is looking bright. All eyes are now on the future of our club as we develop local talent to achieve great things for our region!
