Wonderful Wanderers Women

Over the course of nine days, Australian football celebrated the women and girls in our game with yet another successful Female Football Week.

The annual initiative highlights the immense growth of women’s and girls’ football, honouring players, coaches, match officials, and volunteers who dedicate their time and energy to all levels of the game.

Wanderers Football Club kicked off the week-long festivities with a Magic Round match-up with Lions FC at Nudgee Recreation Reserve. In a show of solidarity and appreciation, each player chose a significant female in their lives to accompany them during the walkout.

Ballinger Park then turned it up on Mother’s Day, with our U11, U12, U14, and U17 FQA2 girls teams all playing at home in a massive day for female football, where players and mums both participated in a special photobooth competition. A tribute wall was also set up to allow all who attended on the day to leave a heartfelt message for a significant female in their lives. There were plenty of great Mother’s Day prizes up for grabs, too, truly resulting in a memorable day at Ballinger Park for all involved.

Wanderers Football Club kept the celebrations rolling with an all-in Female Football Week training session on Tuesday 12 May. The session saw 92 Wanderers girls from U7 to U17 all train together before the NPLW team took to the pitch in their midweek battle with Easts. The event was sponsored by Knobby and included $4,000 worth of prizes, which were awarded throughout the evening.

Following the all-in-training session, the girls took part in a poster-making session, creating some wonderful posters that were used to cheer on and motivate our NPLW team during the walkout. Despite the rain, our Wanderers family had an absolute blast, showing that female football is well and truly alive and thriving at Wanderers Football Club!

The Wanderers wants to extend a warm thank you to all of the females in our lives. We appreciate you more than you can imagine.
