With 2026 Female Football Week fast approaching, Football Queensland has revealed that NPL Women’s Magic Round will return to Nudgee Recreation Reserve for five NPL Women’s Round 13 matches on the 8 and 9 of May— including our very own Sunshine Coast Wanderers Women’s team!
Sunshine Coast Wanderers will face off against Brisbane’s Lions FC in what promises to be one of the highlights of the weekend. The weekend will also feature a Girls United Junior Carnival and a girls-only referee event.
The weekend includes fun for everyone, with several family-friendly activations taking place over the course of the two-day event.
Football Queensland General Manager – Leagues and Officials, Slater Asnicar, said the weekend is a great celebration of how far female participation in our sport has come.
“NPL Women’s Magic Round presents a fantastic opportunity for our football community to witness the talent of our state’s best female players and match officials as Female Football Week celebrations kick off across the country, with plenty of opportunities to also get involved in other FQ activations and clinics being run, including a Girls United Junior Carnival.
“With interest in our NPL Queensland competitions continuing to grow every year, NPL Women’s Magic Round is the perfect occasion to celebrate the continual growth of the women’s game, and we encourage members of our football community to take advantage of the chance to join in the celebrations across the weekend.”
Last year, our Sunshine Coast Wanderers Women beat Gold Coast United 2-1 with a last-minute winner from midfielder Jackie Doyle in what was one of the most exciting games of the round.
Here’s to another successful Magic Round and to the continual growth of women’s participation in the beautiful game.
